This Woman Found a Six

And it definitely wasn't an early Halloween decoration.

There's nothing like the joy of a quiet morning spent strolling through Target, shopping for the best home finds. But imagine if you pulled out a cart, ready to hit the aisles, only to notice it had already been claimed by someone else—a massive snake.

This exact scenario happened early last Saturday morning when a Target shopper in Sioux, Iowa, found a six-foot-long boa constrictor in her shopping cart inside the store. Talk about a scare! When Target tells us to "Expect More. Pay Less," this isn't exactly the "more" we're hoping for….

Local animal control confirmed the snake was a Columbian red-tailed boa, a nonvenomous type that can grow six to 10 feet long and weigh up to 50 pounds, according to the Oakland Zoo. These snakes are known to have a tame temperament and strike only if under extreme distress. Does being left at a Target store count as extreme distress? We wouldn't be sticking around to find out. Also, when a snake that big sneaks up on you, do you really care if it's poisonous or tame?

Police believe the snake was put in the shopping cart intentionally, according to a local news report. Authorities have a theory that the snake might be an abandoned pet, perhaps because it's actually illegal to own one in the city, but that has yet to be confirmed.

The boa is currently being housed at local animal control facility where it will remain until this Saturday. "We're gonna put it in a rescue as soon as its hold time is up," one employee told Newsweek. "We're taking care of him, he's doing good. He's nice and warm, we have the heat lamps on him and he's been fed."

We love a happy ending, so we hope someone gives this snake a good home. But consider this a PSA to check your cart before taking off for the Halloween aisle! Not all the creepy-crawlies are fakes….
